What is a Portable App?

Portable apps could be installed in a USB flash drive and could be used in any computer. No installation is required when you switch between computers. Therefore, we could even use them on the computers where we don’t have the admin rights.

People usually google for portable apps and download them. But it’s possible to do it yourself using free softwares like Cameyo.  I’m gonna show you how to create a portable version of KMplayer.

What do we need?

  1. The setup file of your software. (Antivirus, Downloads manager, Web browser..etc.  -KMplayer in this case)
  2. Cameyo (get it from http://www.cameyo.com/).

First, insyall Cameyo. The user interface would look like this.

Step 1:

Click on the arrowhead near “Capture app locally”, and select ghost mode. This would start a simulator which installs the app virtually. Nothing would be installed for real.

 Step 2:

Locate the setup file of your software.

 Step 3:

Follow the setup instructions. Install the software as you normally do. Proceed to step 4, when the setup is completed.

Step 4:

Once the setup is completed, You’ll see the following message. Click ok to continue.

Step 5:

Everything’s done now. It would take a little time to put all the data in to a single package.

After packaging, the created app could be found at “Documents\Cameyo apps”.

This app is portable and stand-alone. You could just copy it to a Flash Drive and use in any computer.
